Becoming a Fitstar
28 April 2014
It’s fair to say that I’ve tried quite a few of the iPhone fitness apps on the market, Runkeeper, Nike+, MyFitnessPal, Sworkit Pro...the list goes on. Some of them are well designed, fun to use and effective, but the one thing they all have in common is that I haven’t found a place for them in my exercise routine long term. The only app that I have found I really enjoy using over a long term is Fitstar.
Fitstar’s user interface is one of the best things about the app, it’s clean, flat design compliments the workouts perfectly and the user journeys are clear and easy to follow.
Fitstar is a workout app that creates personalised workouts, every time a move is completed, there is an option to select a difficulty and how many repetitions were completed. All this information is used to constantly adjust the workouts to suit you. There are 4 programs that are tailored for a certain goal, ‘Daily Dose’ offers a short daily workout, whereas ‘Get Lean’ includes longer, fat burning workouts four times a week. Users choose a program that best suits their goals and the program will change depending on how they perform on each workout. All workouts include videos that show you how to complete each move and Tony Gonzalez, American Footballer and FitStar’s personal trainer, is always there to offer encouragement, tips and useful knowledge. Having Tony there during the workouts is really helpful, he’ll push you to carry on just when you need it.
Arms, legs or core?
The Fitstar app also includes a section of Freestyle workouts, designed to offer a variety of workout options and allowing users to mix it up and have a break from their chosen program. These workouts are a great addition to the app as there is a choice of workout lengths ranging from 7 to 28 minutes, plus each workout targets a different area of your body, such as arms, legs or core. New workouts are added to the app regularly keeping things fresh.
Fitstar’s user interface is one of the best things about the app, it’s clean, flat design compliments the workouts perfectly and the user journeys are clear and easy to follow. The videos throughout the app are really helpful when completing the moves and help make the overall experience more enjoyable and engaging. The app also support social sharing and allows you to see your friend’s workouts, a bit of competitive spirit can be a very helpful in achieving your goals.
Fits in with your lifestyle
Fitstar is designed to deliver personalised workouts that fit in with your lifestyle, and for me it has really achieved that. However little time I have available, I can always fit in a 7 minute workout, and the programs build up fitness in a way that works for you. Not only that, but at $20.99 for a year, it’s kept me fit whilst saving me a fortune on gym memberships!
